Introduction to World Wide Web (www) – Part 2

As a webmaster you need to make your website live on World Wide Web (www). In order to complete this process you have to go through two consecutive steps. First step is to register your domain and the second step is to rent some server space. Let’s see a brief description of these tasks.

Domain Registration:

There are several companies on internet that allow you to complete domain registration for your website. As does the quality of service, actual costs vary but they all grip the details of making your domain listed in the massive address book at the end of the day which I discussed about earlier in Part-1. You will find that a lot of the names you may be interested to register are previously taken these days.

Difference among .com, .net, .org extension addresses:

In reality there is no difference among several extension address. Search engines have do not have any discrimination between a .NET address and a .COM address. Only thing you might keep in mind that people tend to type in .COM repeatedly since it was the initial widely known domain extension. So you should go for the .COM extension first when registering a domain name and if it is taken, you have to try for any of the others like .net, .org etc. …

Probably you understand that a .COM address is not the same domain name as the various extensions. So for example - www.ABC.com is not the same site as www.ABC.net. In summary, every one of the address with other extension can be registered individually.

Renting space in server to host your website:

At the second step you have to rent space on a reputed server so that it will be able to serve your website to the World Wide Web. This is called hosting. All the companies that provide this sort of service are called hosting companies. After completing your domain registration, all you have to do is make contact with a hosting company and inform them your domain name. They will guide you through the procedure and you will be live on the World Wide Web within a week or less.
